OUR MISSION
Harbor Cleanup launched with a simple mission: clean one harbor at a time. Our goal isn’t just to remove trash from the harbor, it’s to stop it from getting there in the first place. Real impact begins upstream, in the flood control channels and storm drains that carry debris directly into our waterways. By focusing our efforts higher in the watershed, we can intercept litter before it flows into the harbor, protecting marine life and preserving water quality at the source.
In addition to ongoing upstream prevention work, we also organize targeted “after the rain” clean-ups. Rain wash accumulates trash from streets and neighborhoods into the channels, creating critical moments for intervention. By mobilizing quickly after storms, we can capture debris before it flows into the broader harbor and ocean.
Prevention upstream and rapid response after the rain— together, these efforts create a smart, more sustainable approach to keeping our harbor clean.
